Boxwood? How do I confirm that?

A friend was clearing his workshop and gave me a large piece timber which he'd been given decades ago by an old woodworker.
He was told then that it was Boxwood, but how do I confirm that?
It's 1" thick and 16x29" and weighs 4.12Kg
Don't want to sand it as I believe the dust is pretty nasty stuff.

From what I know, boxwood is more yellowish and pale in color, so this piece is either way too dirty or it's not boxwood.

Well consider it may have been sitting around in a couple of workshops for well over 50 years it's going to look like that.
I may just risk sanding a corner but no more. I'd rather move it on to someone who could ude it.

Pretty sure it’s not boxwood. The grain looks too course and even for its age, I’ve never seen boxwood that size.

I’d guess at sapele or something like that from the photo if that helps.
