I'm a retired mechanical engineer, interested in furniture, but certainly lacking skills to tackle anything but basic, although I have some basic tools like chisels and planes, a table saw, a Record Power 250 bandsaw and an Axminster AVSL1000 lathe. I generally make goblets and bowls, but have made miniature tables from wood in my garden. Recently, storms have taken down some trees in my garden and so I have obtained a sawmill 18" x 3m capacity and started to cut and store wood for future use. So far, a Cedrus Deodara, Western Hemlock, and Chamaecyparis have fallen and I fear more will follow if those storms are a sign of what's to come.. They are all about 30yrs old, I measured the fallen Hemlock which was 22.6m (74ft), so the clean-up is no small task and will take a while
Maybe I should start with garden furniture, but I am interested to explore the forum, and see what techniques and equipment are used by forum members.
