Looking to restore this Victorian bed.
Methylated spirits breaks down the the finish so I’m guessing it’s been French polished with shellac.
I was going to clean it give it a light sand with a fine pad. I would like to give it a light stain not sure on colour? Like to get away from this golden colour and bring out the yellow and red in the wood? Then mix up sone shellac. I’ve done this on tables not turned legs and spindles.
Any help or advice would be grateful.
I know if I get this right be a beautiful bed.
Thanks.
